About

What It Is

Methods of Embrace is an immersive porcelain installation by Serenbe-based artist Rachel K. Garceau. Inspired by the architecture of the bowerbird — a creature known for building intricate passageways to attract a mate — this piece explores what it means to move through an enclosure, a transition, or a moment of personal shift.

Think of it as a walkable sculpture. A pathway you step into. A space that holds you for a moment before you step back out changed, even just a little.

Why It Matters

Garceau works with porcelain in its most fragile, bone-dry state, shaping and sanding each piece until it becomes strong enough to stand. That tension — delicate yet structural — sits at the heart of this installation.

She invites you to consider:

  • How does your body feel moving through a space built from something so tender?
  • What happens when you slow down long enough to notice?

The installation began long before it arrived here. It grew out of years of drawings, journal entries, motherhood, and the quiet in-between moments of an artist learning, shifting, and evolving. It’s a piece about transition, intimacy, and the gentle ways we change each other just by being in relationship.

About the Artist
